Why I Started Laser Therapy of Oregon

If you had told me years ago that I would someday own a laser therapy clinic, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. My introduction to laser therapy actually began with my dog.

Sammi Jo willing that ball to be picked up and thrown!

She had two different surgeries a couple of years apart. After each surgery, two different veterinary surgeons recommended that I follow up with laser therapy to help with her recovery.

At the time, I had never heard of laser therapy. And I’ll admit it — I was skeptical. After paying for an expensive surgery, part of me wondered if this was just one more thing they were trying to sell me.

But I loved my dog, and if her surgeon thought it could help her, I was going to do it.

Curiosity Took Over

Interestingly, the same laser technician treated my dog after both surgeries.

I went with her to many of those appointments, and I started asking questions. Lots of questions.

What exactly was the laser doing? Why did they use it after surgery? What else could it be used for?

Eventually I asked the question that changed everything for me:

“Why don’t they do this for people?”

She explained that they do. That got my attention.

I had dealt with chronic pain myself for decades, so this wasn't just an interesting piece of technology to me anymore. I wanted to understand how it worked and whether it might offer another option for people dealing with pain.

The more I learned, the more interested I became.

From Skeptic to Clinic Owner

That initial skepticism is something I haven't forgotten.

In fact, I think it helps me understand many of the people who contact me today.

You don't have to believe in laser therapy before you walk through my door. You don't need to understand wavelengths or know anything about the science behind photobiomodulation. And I'm certainly not going to tell you that laser therapy is the answer to everything. It isn't.

What I do believe is that people living with pain deserve to know what their options are.

Today, I use K-Laser Therapy, a Class IV therapeutic laser, to work with people dealing with a variety of painful conditions and injuries. The goal is to reduce pain and inflammation and support the body's natural recovery processes without injections, medications or invasive procedures.

Sometimes people come to me after they've already tried several other treatments. Others find me because they're looking for a non-invasive option before considering something more aggressive.

Either way, I take the same approach: let's see if this makes sense for you.

Why Laser Therapy of Oregon Is Different

I never wanted to build a clinic where the goal was simply to sell as many treatments as possible.

If someone is making progress, that's wonderful. If they're not, I want to know that too.

Sometimes that means changing how I approach their treatment. Sometimes it means suggesting they talk with a physical therapist, physician or another provider. And sometimes it means being honest that continuing laser treatments may not be the best use of their time or money.

For me, results matter more than selling another appointment.

That philosophy probably goes all the way back to where this story started.

I was skeptical once, too.

I wanted someone to explain what laser therapy was, what it could realistically do, and whether it made sense.

That's what I try to offer the people who come to see me today.

Welcome to Laser Therapy of Oregon

This blog will be another place where I can answer some of the questions I hear all the time about K-Laser Therapy, pain, recovery and the different options people are exploring when they're trying to get back to doing the things they love.

I'll talk about what laser therapy can do, what it can't do, and when another approach might make more sense.

And if you're reading this because you've been struggling with pain and wondering if there's another option, you're in the right place.

Let's see if we can help.

Not all lasers are created equal - we will get into that another time… :)
